Disturbing incidents of violence targeting members of Britain's Polish community have sparked major police investigations across two English cities, with authorities moving quickly to reassure concerned residents.
Liverpool Attack Caught on Camera
In a particularly brutal assault captured on video, a Polish man was violently set upon by a group of attackers on Smithdown Road in Liverpool. The graphic footage shows the victim being repeatedly punched and kicked while on the ground, leaving him with significant facial injuries.
Merseyside Police have confirmed they are treating the attack as a hate crime and have already made one arrest. Detective Inspector Gavin Mulcahy stated: "We're treating this with the utmost seriousness and are following several active lines of enquiry."
Birmingham Assault Under Investigation
Meanwhile, West Midlands Police have launched their own investigation after a separate attack on a Polish national in Birmingham. The force confirmed they are examining whether this incident also constitutes a hate crime.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police told The Independent: "We're aware of this incident and are conducting thorough investigations to identify those responsible."
