People were instructed to shelter inside supermarkets in a Welsh town after police received reports of a man making threats involving a firearm.
Officers were dispatched to the Trostre area of Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, where urgent inquiries were carried out to locate the man. The incident began at approximately 3.45pm.
Armed police seen during lockdown
Witnesses reported seeing armed police on the streets while the lockdown was in place. One person wrote on Facebook: "Does anyone know what's happening by aldi in trostre. A friend is locked down in aldi theres armed police everywhere." (sic)
A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed that, while efforts were made to find the suspect, members of the public were asked to remain inside supermarkets as a precaution to ensure their safety, according to Wales Online.
Man arrested and incident resolved
The force added that the incident was brought to a safe conclusion. A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sending communication threatening death or serious harm.
The Dyfed-Powys Police spokesman said: "Officers have been dealing with an incident in which a man was reported to have made threats involving a firearm at about 3.45pm this afternoon."
"Officers attended the Trostre area of Llanelli and carried out extensive inquiries and searches to locate the man.
"As a precaution, and while officers worked to locate him, members of the public were temporarily asked to remain inside nearby supermarkets to ensure their safety.
"The man has since been located and the incident has been brought to a safe conclusion.
"A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sending communication threatening death or serious harm and is in police custody.
"We would like to thank members of the public and local businesses for their patience and cooperation while officers dealt with the incident."
