Court documents have revealed that Julian Ingram, the man accused of murdering three people in Lake Cargelligo last month, threatened a former partner with a gun and a hole for her new partner a decade before the killings. Ingram, also known as Julian Pierpoint, allegedly shot dead his pregnant former partner Sophie Quinn, her new boyfriend, and her aunt before going on the run. A large-scale manhunt is underway for the 37-year-old.
According to documents obtained by Guardian Australia, Ingram pleaded guilty in 2016 to two domestic violence offences related to threats made against another woman, referred to as Tessa, with whom he had a four-year de facto relationship and a child. He was sentenced to eight months in prison for stalking or intimidating with intent to cause fear or physical harm and for breaching an AVO. However, he successfully appealed, and the sentence was reduced to 300 hours of community service in 2017.
The documents detail Ingram’s jealous and controlling behaviour during the relationship. In early 2016, he made dozens of calls to Tessa, accusing her of being intimate with a handyman fixing her house. He reportedly said, “I have a gun and a hole for him. I will do you and him in.” He also threatened to harm her mother and burn her house down. When Tessa mentioned getting an AVO, Ingram replied, “Do you think an AVO is going to keep yous all safe? Do you really want to play this game. I hope you are ready to play.”
Police are facing scrutiny over their decision to grant Ingram bail for allegedly assaulting Quinn two months before the murders. Police have stated that a risk assessment found he did not pose an unacceptable risk and that he had previously complied with court orders. The court documents also note that Tessa ended the relationship in 2015 after an ADVO was issued against Ingram for assault.
