Netflix is set to release a gripping new spy thriller, Legends, on Thursday, May 7. All six episodes will be available to stream at once from 8:01am BST in the UK. The series is based on the true story of a group of customs officers who went undercover in the 1990s to infiltrate Britain's most dangerous drug networks.
Created by Neil Forsyth, the acclaimed writer behind BBC's The Gold, Legends follows ordinary customs employees who, with minimal training, adopted secret identities to get close to individuals smuggling heroin into the country. Forsyth conducted extensive interviews with real-life legend Guy Stanton and others, saying, 'I immediately got a sense of the human journey that he and others had taken in this remarkable story.'
The cast includes Tom Burke as Guy, Steve Coogan, Hayley Squires, Tom Hughes, Aml Ameen, and Jasmine Blackborow. Additional cast members include Douglas Hodge, Johnny Harris, Gerald Kyd, Numan Acar, Charlotte Ritchie, Joshua Samuels, Kem Hassan, and Thomas Coombes.
Forsyth noted that many of the real officers came from working-class backgrounds and were drawn to the danger and opportunity of undercover work. Legends promises to be a thrilling and intense drama based on an incredible true story.
