In a significant enforcement operation in North Ayrshire, nearly 200 illicit vapes were seized during a joint raid by police and Trading Standards officials. The operation, part of intelligence-led multi-agency activity, targeted licensed and vape premises across the region.
Sniffer Dog Boo Assists in Seizures
Joining the authorities was Boo, a Labrador-German Wirehaired Pointer cross, specially trained to detect nicotine products. The dog was described as "outstanding" in helping officials locate well-concealed illegal nicotine items. Numerous nicotine products were confiscated, including the nearly 200 vapes.
Health Risks of Non-Compliant Vapes
While vapes themselves carry health implications, non-UK compliant products pose additional risks. These include high nicotine levels, falsely advertised "nicotine-free" products, banned ingredients, metals, and fire hazards. The operation underscores the dangers of illicit vapes.
Authorities urge anyone with information on the illegal sale of tobacco or vape products to report it to Police Scotland on 101.
