Murder probe after woman found dead in Dartmouth

A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead following a 'serious disturbance' at a property in Dartmouth, Devon. Devon and Cornwall Police were called to Newcomen Road at around 9.20pm yesterday, where they found a woman who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Arrest made at the scene

A local man in his 30s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. The suspect, who is a British national, remains in police custody while enquiries continue. Police confirmed that officers are not looking for any outstanding suspects at this time.

A man in his 40s was also taken to hospital having sustained facial injuries which are not believed to be life-changing. The woman's next-of-kin have been informed.

Witnesses describe emergency response

Forensic teams have been pictured at the scene in Dartmouth following the incident. Witnesses reported a multi-emergency service response, including an air ambulance, on Newcomen Road.

One neighbour said: "It was mayhem last night. Paramedics and police doing a fab job and thoughts and prayers with the victims."

Another local described the scene: "I saw the helicopter and the fire engines coming out from the ferry. There were about five or fire engines. It looked fairly unusual."

Another witness added: "It looked huge from the Kingswear side. I saw several ambulances, 4 fire engines and seven police cars plus the air ambulance between about 9.30 and 11, all racing along the embankment. I didn't think we had so many resources."
