Rurik Jutting, the British banker accused of murdering two sex workers in Hong Kong, was reportedly nicknamed 'killer' by classmates at Winchester College. A former pupil said Jutting was called 'Kirur', a blend of Japanese words for 'killer' and 'to cut with a knife', after joining the rowing club.
Jutting, 29, has been charged with the murders of Sumarti Ningsih, 25, and Jesse Lorena. Their bodies were found in his luxury flat, with Ningsih's body stuffed in a suitcase on the balcony. Jutting allegedly told his legal team, 'I'm not mad', rejecting suggestions he should be moved to a psychiatric unit.
Reports claim Jutting was caught in a cycle of drugs, vice, and depression, spending up to £10,000 a night on parties with sex workers. His trading licence was revoked by Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission on October 28, though no link to the murders has been suggested. He had quit his job days before the killings, leaving an out-of-office reply reading: 'Please contact someone who is not an insane psychopath.'
The father of Sumarti Ningsih has called for the death penalty, saying: 'He killed her, sadistically, so he must be put to death.' Jutting remains in custody as investigations continue.
