The body of Amy Pike, a 28-year-old woman reported missing over the weekend, has been discovered in dense bushland north of Darwin. Police found her remains near Gunn Point on Monday evening, approximately 50km from where she was last seen in the Palmerston suburb of Gray.
Ms Pike was reported missing on Sunday after last being sighted at 4pm on Saturday. Her car was spotted parked in the area, leading police to the discovery at 6:30pm. A manhunt is underway for the driver of a missing Mitsubishi ute after a separate incident in Adelaide, but it is not directly linked to this case.
Tributes have flooded in from friends and family, describing Ms Pike as a 'prankster with a heart of gold and a dreamer'. Her sister expressed the family's devastation, writing: 'We are all beyond heart broken and are completely lost since receiving the news. May you fly amongst the galaxies and forever watch over us.'
Ms Pike's partner, who had been trying to arrange travel to the Northern Territory, shared his grief online: 'I am forever broken now, just a shell of a man that I once was. I love you with every single part of me.'
Initially, police had hoped Ms Pike had spontaneously travelled to see family in Queensland. A friend recalled finding a hidden polaroid photo in her purse, a gesture that now carries poignant significance.
