Man critical after arcade punch machine pushed on him

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after a punching bag machine was pushed onto him during a disturbance in Toxteth, Liverpool. Emergency crews were called to a parade of shops on Berkley Street just before 7pm on Thursday, October 29, following reports of a disturbance.

Officers found that a punching bag machine had been knocked over and fallen on a man. The victim, in his 50s, suffered a severe head injury and was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Police Clarify Incident

Merseyside Police has clarified what happened after the incident was falsely reported as a stabbing. A white forensic tent remains at the scene in the pedestrianised zone off Upper Parliament Street. The police cordon appears centred outside Bon Café, where the shutter is still half down.

Two tarpaulin sheets can also be seen on the ground close to the tent in the aftermath of the incident, according to the Liverpool Echo.

An investigation is now underway, with officers conducting witness appeals and examining CCTV footage in the vicinity.

Detective Inspector Lee Egerton said: "Enquiries into this incident are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Berkley Street at around 7pm last night who saw anything or can assist our enquiries in any way to get in touch as a matter of urgency."
