Man Arrested Over Suspicious Items in Fallowfield

A man has been arrested as police continue their investigation into 'suspicious items' found in Fallowfield. Officers descended on Edward Sutcliffe Close at around 4.15pm on Tuesday (June 9).

A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of offences under Section 4 of the Explosives Act. The arrest comes after an investigation was launched when an item was found discarded at Abram Close on Saturday (June 6).

During a search of the property, additional items of concern were located. As a precaution, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) attended the scene and nearby properties were evacuated.

Residents have since been able to return to their homes. The man remains in police custody for questioning and enquiries are ongoing. Police were also spotted on Rostherne Avenue on Wednesday evening (June 10).

Police Statement

Detective Chief Inspector Claire Brennan, from the Major Investigation Team, said: “We have a man in custody, and our investigation is progressing at pace. These incidents are currently being treated as isolated. We do not believe there is a wider threat to the community and would like to thank residents for their patience and support.”

“There will be continued police activity at the address as enquiries remain ongoing, and we encourage anyone with information to speak to officers at the scene. We will have an enhanced neighbouring patrol within the area over the next few days to provide reassurance.”
