A 35-year-old man has been arrested after armed police were called to a Welsh town following reports of a man walking around carrying an axe. The incident took place near the centre of Newcastle Emlyn in Carmarthenshire on Monday, September 28.
Armed response in Station Road
Armed units from Dyfed-Powys Police were spotted at the scene, and a police presence remained visible in the area throughout Monday. The man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.
Police statement and bail
A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “We attended to a report of a man carrying an axe on Station Road, Newcastle Emlyn, at around 11.05am on Monday, September 28. Armed units attended the scene and arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.”
The man has been released on bail in connection with the incident.
