A London taxi driver has been hailed as a hero after rescuing his passenger from a machete-wielding gang who broke into his cab and attempted to stab the man.
Footage shows the driver saying goodbye to three men who had just been riding in his vehicle. Seconds later, a Mercedes pulls up behind the taxi and at least three men jump out, sparking a fight between the two groups.
One of the men who had earlier been in the taxi climbs back inside. An attacker wearing a black hoodie and a red mask smashes the cab's window with a hammer while another begins stabbing the passenger in the back seat.
The terrified victim, with blood pooling from his shirt, pleads with the driver saying 'uncle, drive' before the vehicle moves away. The passenger, who managed to fight off his attackers, notices the Mercedes pursuing them and urges the driver to go faster.
The man can be seen with cuts to his arm and over his right eye, his shirt covered in blood. He asks the driver to take him to the nearest police station and calls a friend to say he has been stabbed. In a call to police, he says: 'I need police, I'm getting followed by a car. They're following me, they tried to stab me.'
The victim later took himself to hospital, where his injuries were assessed as not life-threatening.
