A collision between two trams in Hanover, Germany, has left twelve people injured, triggering a major emergency response. The incident occurred shortly before midday on Thursday in the Linden-Süd district, near the Allerweg stop on Ritter-Brüning-Straße.
Both trams derailed upon impact, with one carriage thrown into an elevated platform, causing structural damage. The crash was declared a 'MANV 10' mass casualty event, leading to the deployment of around 60 emergency personnel and 24 vehicles.
Firefighters created temporary exits to assist passengers in evacuating the trams. Paramedics treated the injured at the scene, and seven passengers were taken to hospitals in Hanover for further checks. The two tram drivers escaped unharmed.
The trams involved were travelling on line 13 towards Wettbergen and line 3 towards Altwarmbüchen. The cause of the collision remains unclear, and police have launched an investigation.
Ritter-Brüning-Straße was closed during the rescue operation, and replacement buses were provided for passengers. Authorities have not reported any life-threatening injuries.
