Four Arrested at Orange Order March in Glasgow

Police arrested four individuals after approximately 11,000 people gathered for the annual Boyne parade organized by the Orange Order in Glasgow on Saturday, July 4. The event saw thousands of band members marching through the city centre with music and banners before assembling at Glasgow Green.

Arrests and Penalties

According to Police Scotland, a 31-year-old woman was arrested in connection with acts of disorder during the parade and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal. Two men received fixed penalty notices for assault, and another woman was issued a fixed penalty notice for disorder. Additionally, a 21-year-old man unconnected to the parade was arrested for obstructing officers and an outstanding warrant.

Policing and Route Changes

Superintendent Natalie Carr stated: "A proportionate policing plan was in place, and we worked with a range of partners to ensure public safety and minimise disruption to the wider community." The parade route was altered this year due to ongoing construction works around the city centre. Several streets were closed to accommodate the event.

The County Grand Orange Lodge of Glasgow organized the annual walk. Ahead of the march, the Loyal Orange Institution of Scotland issued a statement: "The Grand Lodge Trustees convey their congratulations and best wishes to the County Grand Lodge of Glasgow ahead of their Boyne celebrations in Glasgow. We hope the day is marked by fellowship, dignity and success for Brother Mark Kirkland, RWCGM and all those who are participating."

Public Response

Carr thanked the majority of participants and the wider public for their positive engagement and responsible behaviour throughout the event. The arrests were part of a broader policing effort to maintain order during the large-scale gathering.
