Cleveland Police have arrested five teenagers on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a man's body at a house in County Durham.

Police Respond to Residential Street

Officers were called to an address on Egglescliffe Close in Stockton at approximately 6:50pm on Saturday 10 January 2026. Upon arrival, they found a 49-year-old man deceased inside the property.

Five Suspects in Custody

A police spokesperson confirmed that five individuals have been taken into custody. Those arrested are a 19-year-old man, two 18-year-old men, and two 17-year-old boys. All are being questioned on suspicion of murder.

A witness reported seeing four police vehicles at the scene on the residential street, which is located in the Hardwick area of northern Stockton, near Durham Road (the A177).

Appeal Over Social Media Footage

Cleveland Police have issued a specific appeal concerning video footage related to the incident. The force stated it is aware of material circulating on social media platforms and has urged the public not to share it further.

"We are aware of footage relating to this incident circulating around social media sites," a spokesperson said. "Please do not share this footage any further, as this could impact on legal proceedings."

The police have provided a portal for the anonymous upload of any relevant footage. They are also asking anyone with information, CCTV, or doorbell footage to contact them on 101, quoting reference number SE26005815.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man's death is ongoing. The arrests mark a significant development in the case, which has shocked the local community.
