Firefighters extinguished a blaze involving a shipping container in Cheetham Hill last night. Crews were called to Sherbourne Street, near HMP Manchester, where they found the container ablaze.
The fire is understood to have occurred within a plot of land containing an empty building. Fire crews were initially called out at 11pm and spent about two hours at the scene.
Three fire engines dispatched
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just after 11pm last night (Saturday 10th October), three fire engines from across Greater Manchester were called to reports of a fire involving a shipping container on Sherbourne Street, Manchester.
“Crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters used jets to extinguish the fire. Firefighters were in attendance for around two hours.”
