Coronation Street Twist: Gary Windass Becomes Suspect in Theo Silverton Murder
Corrie Twist: Gary Windass Suspect in Theo Murder

Coronation Street aired a major twist in its latest whodunnit plot on Thursday night, as Gary Windass was taken in for questioning following the death of Theo Silverton. The character has become an official suspect in the ongoing crime storyline, with a huge lie potentially unraveling everything.

The Murder of Theo Silverton

The abusive Theo Silverton was one of five potential villains set to be killed off during the soap's controversial Murder Week, where the same day was repeated over and over again. Ultimately, Theo was found dead at the bottom of some scaffolding, leading to a new whodunnit plot exploring who is responsible for his death.

Bosses released an official lineup of suspects, including George Shuttleworth, Theo's partner Todd Grimshaw, Todd's daughter Summer Spellman, Theo's former colleague Gary Windass, and Theo's ex-wife Danielle Silverton.

Gary's Questioning

On the night of the murder, Gary, already angry with Theo for abusing Todd, smashed up the scaffolder's van. He was taken in for questioning by DS Lisa Swain, who demanded CCTV from the builder's yard, which viewers know has been deleted. Gary had been meant to meet his wife Maria at the Bistro for a romantic lunch, and she was surprised to see Swain, who has a history of locking innocent people up, arrive and demand she also come in for questioning.

Just as hope seemed lost, DC Kit Green told Gary he could go home because Maria had told police that she and Gary had sneaked away to have sex at the time of the murder. However, Maria's claims turned out to be false, as Gary appeared in the background of a selfie taken by Sally and Tim, with a timestamp of 22:02, confirming he and Maria could not have been together.

Reactions to the Lie

Gary told Maria: "It's perverting the course of justice. If you end up in the slammer, I'd never forgive myself." She replied: "Well, if you were telling me the truth about what happened that night, then there won't be a problem." Gary insisted he was there and left at quarter past ten.

Reacting to the lie and the photograph, one fan wrote on X: "Maria knew Gary was hiding something, good thing he told her about Theo's van and the deleted CCTV footage." Another said: "Maria pulled the sex lie to save Gary there. Smart thinking on her part in my opinion!" A third wrote: "Gary deleting the footage will definitely come to regret later on. What's the chances on the sledgehammer Gary used to smash the van's windscreen is the murder weapon? It hasn't been confirmed exactly how Theo died but he definitely had a head wound." A fourth added: "Oh dear, Gary. Is that you coming round the side of Dev's shop at 10.02pm on the night of the murder? Yes. Yes, it is. I'm sure he was just checking on the scaffolding!"

Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream from 7am on ITV X.
