CCTV appeal after man smashes car with crowbar on East Lancs Road
CCTV appeal after crowbar attack on East Lancs Road

Detectives have released a CCTV image of a man they believe could help them after a car was attacked with a crowbar on a major road. At around 5.45pm on Monday, October 12, police received a report of an altercation involving people in two vehicles on East Lancashire Road, near Windle Island, in St Helens.

Details of the incident

The incident involved a man driving a Peugeot 206 and three men travelling in a black SEAT Ibiza. It was reported that one of the men in the SEAT threatened the Peugeot driver and attempted to assault him. He then used a crowbar to cause extensive damage to the victim's vehicle. The suspects then left the scene and travelled towards Manchester.

Following enquiries, officers arrested a 19-year-old man from Kirkby later that evening on suspicion of affray, criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, drug driving and failing to provide a specimen. He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Appeal for information

Detectives are now appealing for the man shown in the CCTV image to come forward, or for anyone who recognises him to contact police, as they believe he may have information that could help the investigation.

Detective Constable Connor Haines said: "This was a cowardly attack on a man who was fortunate to escape without injury, although extensive damage was caused to his vehicle."

"While we have made an arrest, our enquiries remain ongoing and I would urge the man pictured, or anyone who recognises him, to get in touch. We believe he may hold information that could prove vital to our investigation."
