A 79-year-old British holidaymaker has died on board a cruise ship off the Greek island of Crete after falling unresponsive. The man, who has not been named, was sailing in the Mediterranean when the vessel docked at Crete due to the medical emergency.
Details of the incident
According to reports, the passenger received first aid from the ship's medical staff, but he was later declared dead at a local hospital. Port officials in Chania have launched a preliminary investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death, the Daily Mail reports.
The Foreign Office has been approached for comment. This incident follows another British passenger death earlier this month on a cruise ship near Corfu. That victim was a 67-year-old sailing on a vessel flying the Maltese flag.
Ongoing investigations
Authorities have not released further details about the man's identity or the cause of death. The cruise ship company has not issued a statement. The British Embassy in Greece is likely providing consular assistance to the family.
