A body has been found on Eastbourne beach after the RNLI's rescue and search teams were called. The body was discovered this morning after helicopters were dispatched over a welfare concern on Thursday.
Police were later seen shielding the body with sheets. A witness told The Argus the body was wearing a wetsuit when it was found.
Multi-agency search operation
The search included coastguard rescue teams from Birling Gap and Eastbourne, an HM Coastguard helicopter and the Eastbourne RNLI lifeboat.
The RNLI said: 'Solent Coastguard requested our volunteer crew to assist with a multi-agency search after unattended items had been located towards the west of Eastbourne.'
'The ILB carried out a shoreline search alongside local Coastguard Rescue Teams, the coastguard helicopter “Rescue 363” and Sussex Police officers.'
Ongoing response
Sussex Police has been contacted for comment.
