Emergency services have recovered a body from Eastbourne beach following a multi-agency search operation that was launched after a welfare concern was reported on Friday afternoon.
Search and rescue teams combed the shoreline at Eastbourne beach, with an RNLI helicopter assisting the search at around 3.30pm on Friday. Eyewitnesses reported that the person was wearing a wetsuit when their body was found.
Multi-agency response
Sussex Police have since confirmed that a body was recovered from the beach. Several police vehicles were seen in the area as authorities continue their investigations into the tragic death.
An RNLI spokesperson said: "Solent Coastguard requested our volunteer crew to assist with a multi-agency search after unattended items had been located towards the west of Eastbourne. The ILB carried out a shoreline search alongside local Coastguard Rescue Teams, the coastguard helicopter 'Rescue 363' and Sussex Police officers."
Investigation ongoing
The search and rescue operation involved Sussex Police, the RNLI and coastguard teams. Authorities remain at the scene as the investigation continues.
