The fire was located on a boat moored near Vesta Street and the Ashton Canal Tow Path.
Firefighters arrived promptly and were joined by colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and the North West Ambulance Service. The crews worked to extinguish the blaze and ensure the area was safe, remaining on the scene for around 50 minutes.

A spokesperson for GMFRS stated: 'At around 2:05pm this afternoon (Thursday 2 July), two fire engines, a water incident unit and two enhanced rescue units from Manchester Central, Ashton-under-Lyne and Eccles were called to a boat fire at Vesta Street, Manchester. Firefighters arrived quickly alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service, and remained at the scene for around 50 minutes to extinguish the fire and make the area safe.'
