A teenager has been arrested following a police chase in Netherton during which an Audi A3 narrowly missed a pedestrian.
The pursuit began around 3pm on Wednesday on St Nicholas Drive after officers became suspicious of the car, which then fled from police on Northern Perimeter Road.
Reckless Driving Details
The vehicle was driven at high speeds, narrowly avoiding a collision with a pavement. It was driven around a roundabout the wrong way and performed a U-turn through a pedestrian crossing, according to Merseyside Police.
The car mounted the pavement, narrowly missing a member of the public, and was driven across a pedestrianised market and open shopping centre. It was eventually abandoned on All Saints Close, where the suspected driver was chased and detained nearby.
Drugs and Arrest
Following the incident, bags containing white powder and cannabis resin were recovered. A 19-year-old man from the Netherton area was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and without insurance, and possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs. He remains in custody.
Matrix Roads Policing Inspector Ian Cowell said: “Thanks to the instincts of the officers who saw the car and their diligence and expertise in following him we were able to detain the male quickly.”
He added: “Our work to remove drugs and those who choose to peddle them on the streets of Merseyside Police remains ongoing and we would urge the public to support us by coming forward with information.”
