Three Jailed for Stealing £1M of Weight-Loss Drug Mounjaro

Three men have been sentenced to five years and three months in prison after stealing almost £1 million worth of the weight-loss drug Mounjaro from a healthcare distribution centre in St Albans. Mark Harding, 55, Peter Costello, 44, and Robert Townsend, 59, pleaded guilty to burglary at St Albans Crown Court.

The Burglary

The theft occurred on January 24, when the trio broke into the distribution centre on Handley Page Way. They made off with 79 boxes of Mounjaro, valued at £944,544.89. The drugs, used for weight loss and diabetes management, were targeted due to their high street value and demand.

Investigation and Arrests

Hertfordshire Police tracked down the men following an investigation. Evidence including CCTV footage and forensic analysis linked them to the crime. All three were arrested and later charged with burglary.

Sentencing

At St Albans Crown Court, the judge sentenced each defendant to five years and three months in prison. The court heard that the burglary was carefully planned, and the men had targeted the high-value medication for resale.

Impact

The theft caused significant disruption to the supply chain, affecting patients who rely on Mounjaro for medical treatment. Police warned that such crimes could endanger lives by diverting essential medicines from legitimate use.
