Italian police have arrested Leonardo Gesualdo, the leader of one of Italy's most notorious crime families, in a surprise raid in Foggia. The operation, carried out by armed Carabinieri officers, was captured on footage released by the Italian Ministry of Defence on Tuesday.
Gesualdo, known as 'The Wolf', was found sleeping in a residence and offered no resistance. During the arrest, officers discovered a pistol with its serial number erased. He has been on the run since 2020 and was sentenced in absentia to 12 years in prison for mafia-related activities.
The fugitive is the head of the Foggia Society, a powerful crime syndicate operating in the southern Italian region of Apulia. His capture marks a significant blow to organised crime in the area.
