Greater Manchester Police have launched an urgent counter-terrorism investigation following multiple bomb threats targeting Jewish community centres across the region. The disturbing incidents have prompted heightened security measures and widespread condemnation from political leaders.
Community on High Alert
The Community Security Trust (CST), which works to protect British Jews from antisemitism and related threats, confirmed they were supporting police with the investigation. Several Jewish community buildings received threatening communications, including specific bomb threats that authorities are treating with utmost seriousness.
Mark Gardner, Chief Executive of CST, stated: "We are working closely with Greater Manchester Police to ensure the safety of our community. These threats come at a time of heightened tension, and we urge all community members to remain vigilant."
Political Leaders Condemn Threats
Labour leader Keir Starmer swiftly denounced the incidents, describing them as "despicable acts that have no place in our society." In a strongly worded statement, he emphasised the need for unity and solidarity with the Jewish community.
"All political leaders must stand together against such hatred," Starmer declared. "We will not allow those who seek to divide our communities through fear and intimidation to succeed."
