A seasoned Vinted user has warned fellow shoppers to be vigilant after falling victim to a scam involving an InPost locker. The shopper, who has around 150 five-star reviews on the online marketplace, purchased a coat labelled as 'new with tags' for £180.
On Reddit, she explained that the seller had only one other review, which she thought might be suspicious, but decided to proceed. After the seller took several days to post the item, she went to collect it from an InPost locker. Upon scanning her code, a small compartment opened, and she instantly knew something was wrong as the coat could not possibly fit inside.
Inside the locker, she found only a tiny white envelope with her address on it. She contacted InPost, who checked CCTV footage and confirmed that the sender had never placed a parcel in the locker, only the envelope. InPost advised her to contact Vinted support, which she did, and was surprised at how quickly they responded. Vinted initiated a refund and blocked the user.
Upon returning home, she opened the envelope and found a letter thanking her for her first purchase, which she believes is part of the scam to make it appear as though the envelope was attached to a parcel. One Reddit user commented that they had seen a similar story with the same letter, highlighting a recurring scam.
