Philip Aryeetey, 55, of Tanhouse Road in Thornton, has been sentenced to three years in prison after police discovered a padlocked suitcase containing £299,440 in cash underneath the driver's seat of his car.
Officers stopped Aryeetey on the M57 near junction five in Kirkby on Friday, October 24, 2025. A search of his vehicle led to the discovery of the suitcase, and a subsequent search of his home uncovered a further £2,000 in cash, 65 grams of cocaine, and a taser.
Investigation by Organised Crime Partnership
The investigation was carried out by officers from the Merseyside Organised Crime Partnership, a joint team made up of Merseyside Police and the National Crime Agency that aims to tackle serious and organised crime.
Aryeetey appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, September 10 after pleading guilty to two counts of possessing criminal property (cash), possession of a controlled Class A drug (cocaine) with intent to supply, and possessing a prohibited firearm (taser).
Police comment on significant seizure
Merseyside Police's Detective Chief Inspector Pete Stephenson said: “This was a significant cash seizure and shows how our officers will leave no stone unturned when it comes to stopping people involved in organised crime.
“Aryeetey thought he could lock away nearly £300,000 in cash and we wouldn’t find it. Sadly for him he’s now locked up himself and will spend time in prison where he will have plenty of time to reflect on his actions.
“Organised crime is hugely damaging to our communities, often involving intimidation, violence and creating fear where criminals involved have no thought for anyone other than themselves.
“We will relentlessly target anyone who brings fear and harm to our communities, while safeguarding the innocent victims of their actions.
