Shoppers are being urged not to consume certain supermarket products following recalls over safety concerns. One product has been recalled due to a risk of exploding, while another may be contaminated with salmonella.
Chocolate recall over salmonella
World of Sweets is recalling Dubai Style Crunchy Knafeh and Pistachio Milk Chocolate and Alyan Dubai Style Chocolate Truffles because salmonella has been found in the products. Tesco was among the stores stocking Alyan Dubai Style Pistachio Chocolate.
Tesco said in its warning notice: "World of Sweets are recalling all date codes of Alyan Dubai Style Pistachio Chocolate 100g, due to a detection of Salmonella which makes the product unsafe to eat. If you’ve bought an affected product, please don’t eat it."
The notice adds: "Instead, return it to any Tesco store for a full refund. No receipt is required. Use our store locator to find your nearest Tesco. No other World of Sweets products sold at Tesco are affected by this recall. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused."
Lucky Saint Hazy IPA cans recalled
Both Tesco and Sainsbury's have recalled Lucky Saint Hazy IPA alcohol free products because some cans may become over-pressurised and rupture unexpectedly. Tesco said: "Lucky Saint is recalling a specific date code of Lucky Saint Alcohol Free Hazy IPA 4x330ml, due to the risk of some cans becoming over pressurised. This can cause cans to swell, leak or rupture unexpectedly, presenting a risk of physical injury."
Tesco advises: "If you’ve bought an affected product, please don’t open or drink it. To safely dispose of the product, please handle the cans as little as possible, place them carefully upright, in a sealed bag and dispose of them with your household waste. Take a copy of your receipt to any Tesco store for a refund. Don't return the affected cans to store. No other Lucky Saint products are affected by this recall. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused."
A similar warning has been issued by Sainsbury's for the Lucky Saint Hazy IPA cans. The Food Standards Agency has also shared the alerts. Note that the Alyan Dubai Style Chocolate Truffles are not listed in Tesco or Sainsbury's recall list - the item may have been on sale in other stores.
