Police were called shortly after 3pm on October 6 to reports that two men had pushed a female member of staff and repeatedly punched a male colleague at the Essar petrol station on Sefton Street in L8.

During the incident, the two men tried to enter an office inside but failed and left empty handed. The male member of staff, a man in his 40s, suffered facial injuries and attended hospital for treatment.

Suspects described

One of the suspects is described as a white male, around 5ft 4in tall and of large build. He was wearing a grey hoodie, dark grey trousers and dark shoes.

The second male was described as being around 6ft tall and wearing a dark navy tracksuit. Both had their faces covered.

Getaway car found burnt out

They fled the scene in a green Ford Puma with no number plates, driven by a third man, which was driven onto Hill Street before it was set on fire near a block of flats.

A cordon was erected on Hill Street which remained into the evening, with scientific support officers and detectives attending.
