A man has appeared in court after up to £21,000-worth of cannabis was found in a car in Newcastle. Evris Hoxha, a Greek national, was in the dock after officers stopped a Vauxhall Vectra on September 28.
A carrier bag and two boxes containing cannabis were allegedly found in the vehicle and Hoxha was arrested. The 25-year-old, of Holyrood Gardens, in Brent, London, appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court this week to face one count of being concerned in the supply of a class B drug.
Plea withheld
Hoxha withheld his plea to the allegation and, instead, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address. Jade Houston, prosecuting, said the offence was alleged to have taken place between September 25 and 29 this year.
Miss Houston added: "This is a case that the Crown would say is unsuitable to be dealt with at the magistrates court and should be sent to the crown court."
"It involves a vehicle being stopped by officers on September 28. A search of the Vauxhall Vectra allegedly resulted in the discovery of a carrier bag containing cannabis and two boxes containing cannabis."
Value of the drugs
"Around 7kg of cannabis was seized, with a value of between £14,000 to £21,000." Mark Harrison, defending, said: "I agree, it's a crown court case."
Magistrates declined jurisdiction and remanded Hoxha in custody to next appear at Newcastle Crown Court on October 28.
