MP's Daughter Converts to Islam Amid Cocaine Charges

Brianna Costigan, the 19-year-old daughter of Queensland MP Jason Costigan, has converted to Islam and married her co-accused in a cocaine trial, according to reports. The University of New South Wales law student now goes by the name Brianna Taha and shared a picture of herself in a Burberry headscarf praising Allah on Instagram.

Costigan faces charges of supplying cocaine and knowingly taking part in supplying 2.31g on three or more occasions. She was arrested in September as part of a police operation targeting cocaine dealers in Sydney. Her co-accused, Ahmed Taha, 26, faces 14 charges, including six related to cocaine supply.

The teenager's lawyer previously argued in court that she was 'not the brains of the operation' and relied on drug income while studying full-time. Costigan appeared in court in November and is accused of dealing cocaine to undercover detectives.

Her father, Jason Costigan, was expelled from the Liberal National Party in January after allegations of harassment from an 18-year-old woman. He denies the claims and has refused to resign from his seat in the Whitsundays.
