Two Cardiff teenagers remain in jail in Thailand three months after they were first arrested, police have confirmed. South Wales Police has provided an update on its investigation into the teens' arrest and said the two 17-year-olds first arrested in June remain in custody abroad.
It comes as the force confirmed a seventh person has been charged in connection with the investigation.
Arrest and Investigation
A major police probe was launched earlier this year after the 17-year-old boys were arrested at a Thai airport on June 23 with 64kg of cannabis hidden in their suitcases. Six people have previously appeared in court charged in connection with the police probe.
On Wednesday, South Wales Police said Carrie-Anne Dreyer, 39, of Llantwit Major, has been charged with conspiring to fraudulently evade a prohibition on the importation of a class B drug and four counts of conspiring to arrange or facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation.
She has been remanded into custody and is due to appear in front of Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
Charges and Court Appearances
The force said the children remain in custody in Thailand where they are being supported by their families and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
"The families have been updated regarding this latest arrest and charge," a spokesperson added. The investigation into the circumstances in which they travelled to Thailand is described as ongoing.
The other individuals who have been charged and have already appeared at court in connection with the investigation are Tremaine Jeanne, 28, from Llanrumney, Jessica Sani, 28, from Newport, Levi Mohamed, 20, of Butetown, Patrick O'Driscoll, 30, of Caerau, and Gareth Press, 42, of Ely, and Ffion Bowes-Cavanagh Hooley, 24, of Caerau.
Prosecution Details
At a hearing last month, prosecutor Nicholas Evans said the boys arrested in Thailand had been attempting to board a flight back to the UK. Mr Evans said the boys had been "trafficked across international boundaries".
After a series of raids in south Wales, a handgun was discovered in a storage facility, the court was also told.
