£2m drugs seized after stop and search in Middleton

Around £2 million worth of cocaine and three cannabis farms have been uncovered following a stop and search in Middleton. The discovery came after a 38-year-old man was arrested when drugs and cash were found during the stop and search on Sunday (October 4).

Arrest after suspicious vehicle spotted

Patrol officers from the Middleton Neighbourhood Policing Team spotted a suspicious vehicle parked on Cemetery Street, Middleton, and stopped the car. A search was carried out and they recovered a portion of class A drugs, scales, and cash.

A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs. He remains in custody for questioning, according to Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

Three properties searched

Further intelligence led to the search of three properties in Middleton, Chadderton and Oldham. A cannabis farm was found at each address, as well as 20 kilograms of suspected cocaine. All recoveries are due to be assessed further.

According to police, the estimated street value of the drugs is around £2m.

Police urge public to report crime

Inspector Graham Cooke, from GMP's Heywood and Middleton Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "While last week saw a significant day in tackling suspected organised criminality across our areas, yesterday's result showed the successes that ongoing proactive patrolling can achieve.

"While our detectives are hard at work securing further evidence and charges in relation to last week's work, neighbourhood officers are continuing to patrol hotspots and take action where needed.

"I would urge anyone with any information about criminality in their area to get in touch with us - we will do what we can to assist."
