A parrot named Mango has played an unexpected role in bringing down an organised crime gang in Blackpool, after the bird learned to squawk the phrase “two for 25”, a code for a cocaine deal. The yellow parrot belonged to the girlfriend of ringleader Adam Garnett, who was among 15 gang members jailed for a combined total of more than 103 years.
Lancashire Police officers discovered Mango during raids on homes in Blackpool, where they seized large quantities of cocaine and heroin. Footage released by the force on Wednesday shows the bird squawking the incriminating phrase and playing with cash from the £1 million narcotics operation. The videos were taken by gang members before the raid.
Adam Garnett and his 14 associates were sentenced on Wednesday for their roles in the drug ring. The talking parrot's inadvertent confession added a unique twist to the investigation, highlighting the unusual ways in which criminal activities can be exposed.
