The mother of late rapper POORSTACY's young child has been taken into custody by police in Florida, facing allegations of child neglect in the tragic aftermath of the musician's suicide.
Arrest Follows Tragic Hotel Room Incident
Nicole Grikstas, 24, was arrested in the affluent city of Boca Raton, Florida. The arrest is directly connected to events surrounding the death of the rapper, whose real name was Carlito Milfort Jr. POORSTACY died at the age of 26 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound early on Saturday, November 11.
According to an affidavit obtained by TMZ, Grikstas provided a detailed statement to Boca Raton police following the rapper's death on Monday, November 13. She revealed that she and POORSTACY had checked into a hotel in the city with their child.
Drug-Fuelled Night Preceded Fatal Shooting
Police reports state that Grikstas admitted both she and the rapper spent time consuming a cocktail of illicit substances. The drugs included cocaine, Xanax, and MDMA, often referred to as Molly.
Grikstas told authorities that on the evening of Wednesday, November 8, both she and POORSTACY used cocaine, and she also took a tablet of Molly. The affidavit details that a violent argument erupted between the couple throughout the night, centring on accusations of infidelity.
The situation escalated further when POORSTACY allegedly accused Grikstas of hiding drugs. She claims he forcibly removed her clothing without consent and physically searched her, before hitting her repeatedly. The confrontation turned even more terrifying when, according to Grikstas, POORSTACY produced a handgun.
She told police he threatened to shoot her if she did not immediately reveal the location of hidden narcotics, alternating between pointing the firearm at her and at himself. The affidavit states that this culminated in POORSTACY turning the gun on his own head and pulling the trigger in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Child Present During Dangerous Ordeal
A central element of the police investigation and the subsequent arrest was the presence of the couple's young child. Grikstas indicated to officers that the child was in the hotel room during the drug consumption and the ensuing violent dispute.
She conceded that neither she nor POORSTACY made any attempt to remove the child from the increasingly volatile and dangerous environment. Police who responded to a 911 call made by the hotel front desk entered the room to find a scene littered with evidence.
The room contained:
- Various drugs and drug paraphernalia.
- Toys belonging to the child.
- Food items.
- A loaded Taurus handgun recovered from the scene.
Boca Raton police determined that both parents failed in their duty to protect their child from immediate harm. This failure led to the arrest of Nicole Grikstas on a charge of child neglect. An insider close to Grikstas's family told TMZ that the child is now in the care of the mother's family.
TMZ also reported that a transcript of the 911 call made by a hotel employee had all investigative details removed, offering little additional insight. The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for POORSTACY and the Boca Raton Police Department for further comment.
