A 17-year-old boy from Greater Manchester is on trial for the attempted murder of his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend, whom he allegedly stabbed to prove his love for his new partner. The court heard that the boy, who cannot be named, had been in a coercive and controlling relationship with the victim for two and a half years before the attack in May.
The victim testified that the boy banned her from wearing certain clothes and makeup, demanded passwords to her social media accounts, and installed his own fingerprint on her phone to access it at will. She also said he called her derogatory names and that they had an unplanned baby together before the attack.
The boy has admitted causing grievous bodily harm but denies attempted murder and rape, claiming the sex was consensual. A 17-year-old girl is also on trial, accused of encouraging the attack by texting him to film it and buying wipes to clean the knife. The prosecution says she was jealous and had recently ended their relationship after seeing a photo of him with his ex.
During cross-examination, the victim agreed that the boy was manipulative and coercive. She said she feared he would gain custody of their child if she did not comply. The court also heard that she had agreed to fake her own death so he could take a picture shortly before the stabbing.
