A woman who twisted her husband's testicles after accusing him of refusing to have sex with her has been spared jail. Sharon Irvine, 55, attacked her partner David as he lay in bed at their home in Blantyre, Lanarkshire.
Irvine called police in January this year, telling them she had attacked her husband and there was 'a lot of blood'. Mr Irvine was taken to hospital where he needed stitches for a cut, but he refused to cooperate with officers. The couple, married for 14 years, remain together.
At Hamilton Sheriff Court, Irvine admitted assault to severe injury. Depute fiscal Sinead Corrigan said Irvine told police she had heard her husband 'pleasuring himself' and became angry because he was not engaging in sexual activity with her. She then grabbed and twisted his testicles.
Sheriff Kevin McCallum KC placed Irvine under supervision for a year and ordered her to work with addiction support due to her alcohol issues. He said: 'I have to take a serious view of it... but it would not be right for me to impose something worse on you.' Prosecutors did not seek a non-harassment order after Mr Irvine said he did not want one.
