Minnesota Mother Jailed for Draining Children's Blood in 'Vampire' Abuse Case

A Minnesota mother who subjected her children to horrific abuse, including forcibly draining their blood, has been sentenced to nearly 40 years in prison. Jorden Borders, 35, was convicted in June on charges including attempted murder, child torture, stalking, and theft by false representation.

According to the Minnesota Attorney General's Office, Borders engaged in medical child abuse by withdrawing blood from her children using syringes, PICC lines, and central lines. She then took them to medical appointments where doctors observed dangerously low haemoglobin levels, prompting an investigation in May 2022.

Borders also forced her children to wear unnecessary casts, boots, and neck braces, self-diagnosing them with brittle bone disease. One child was kept in a cast for over two years. She instructed them to fake symptoms such as vomiting and asthma, and made one child wear unprescribed hearing amplifiers, causing a boil on her ear.

The children testified that Borders beat them with charging cables, belts, and spoons, sometimes until they bled. She made them stand outside in freezing temperatures without clothes, deprived them of food, and threatened their lives. Borders also defrauded Minnesota's Medicaid program of $18,000 by fabricating symptoms and claiming to be a personal care assistant.

Attorney General Keith Ellison described the crimes as 'some of the most heinous and agonising' he had seen. Borders was sentenced by Judge Patricia Aanes on Thursday. She and her spouse surrendered their parental rights in December 2022.
