A 66-year-old man from St Helens has been arrested on suspicion of possessing an indecent image of a child after police boxed his car in on the East Lancs Road.
The arrest followed a five-week investigation into reports that an indecent image of a child had been uploaded online on August 17. At 10.15am on Wednesday (September 23), officers saw a car on the A580 East Lancs Road that was identified as belonging to the suspect.
Police use stinger before arrest
Officers used a 'stinger' before boxing the vehicle in. The man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession of an indecent photograph/pseudo photograph of a child.
He has since been bailed with conditions while enquiries continue, Merseyside Police says.
Detective urges public to report concerns
Detective Inspector Ian Tinsley, of Merseyside Police, said: "We will continue to proactively target anyone in our communities suspected of contributing to the cycle of abuse of children by making or possessing indecent images."
"I would encourage anyone with concerns or information to get in contact with us. We always act on all the information we receive and take robust action, using all the resources at our disposal, to make sure offenders are arrested and put before the courts."
