In a scandal that has sent shockwaves through the National Football League, Danyel Ward, the wife of Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward, has been arrested and charged with a series of grave offences in Harris County, Texas.
The 31-year-old is facing two felony charges: possession of a controlled substance, namely crystal methamphetamine, and sexual assault of a child. The latter charge is a second-degree felony, carrying the potential for a severe prison sentence of up to 20 years.
A Disturbing Allegation
Court documents reveal the disturbing nature of the allegations. The complaint states that the sexual assault charge relates to an incident involving a minor under the age of 17. The case was investigated by the Harris County Sheriff's Office, with the alleged assault reportedly taking place on August 30th.
Alongside the serious felony counts, Danyel Ward was also booked on a Class A misdemeanour charge of possession of a dangerous drug. She was processed at the Harris County Jail on a $40,000 bond, which she has since posted to secure her release.

The arrest places her husband, Jimmie Ward, in an intensely difficult position. The 32-year-old defensive back is a respected veteran in the league, having spent nine seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before signing a two-year, $13 million contract with the Houston Texans this past offseason.
Ward is renowned for his leadership and performance on the field, making this off-field personal crisis all the more stark. The Texans organisation and the NFL community are yet to release official statements regarding the matter.
