Disturbing footage shows the moment a neighbour hurled boiling water over a disabled grandmother's face as she walked her four-year-old grandson to school. Susan Varley, 68, was attacked by her next-door neighbour Ina Priestly, 56, in Morley, Leeds, on February 6.
In the CCTV footage, Priestly approaches Susan and pours steaming water from a kettle over her face. Susan falls to the ground screaming in pain while Priestly walks away. The boy escaped injury because his coat hood was up. Susan suffered serious burns to her scalp, forehead, left cheek, ear and neck, but her eyesight was saved by her glasses.
Priestly pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent at Leeds Crown Court and received a two-year community order with up to 25 rehabilitation days. She was also given an indefinite restraining order and a £114 surcharge.
Susan's daughter Donna, 35, said her mother is now a 'shell of the person she once was' and lives in fear of further attacks. Donna added that Priestly had harassed her mother for 20 years, damaging her garden and placing nails on her driveway.
Susan was treated at Leeds General Infirmary and later underwent surgery at Pinderfields Hospital to treat blisters. She was discharged the same day.
