The wife of Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has begun a new life in Turkey after a terrifying incident while living in the UK.
Robbery in Alderley Edge
In April 2025, Melanie Kamayou was robbed at knifepoint outside an Italian restaurant in Alderley Edge. She was allegedly robbed of a gold Rolex watch and a designer handbag in the incident.
The incident was reported to have happened as she got out of her car to have dinner with a friend. Restaurant staff and police are believed to have helped at the time, but she was understandably shaken up.
Move to Turkey
Melanie followed her husband to Turkey when he joined Trabzonspor on loan in 2025, and the deal has since been extended for a second season. It comes after a scary experience when the Cameroon international keeper was playing in England.
According to reports at the time from The Mail, United responded by giving Onana and his family round-the-clock protection. The goalkeeper, who lived with his wife in Hale at the time, was reportedly furious at the robbery.
Charity Work and Career
The couple now live in Turkey, where Melanie continues her work as co-chair of the Andre Onana Foundation. As explained on its website, the charity "Provides free medical care and surgeries to underprivileged communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, helping individuals in need regain their health and hope".
She describes herself on her Instagram account as a businesswoman and philanthropist. However, she has also secured a doctorate in pharmacy from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health. "Today marks the accomplishment of a long journey and the beginning of a new adventure," she wrote in an Instagram post celebrating the qualification in 2022. "I am thankful to everyone who made it possible. I pray that this accomplishment may be the foundation for even greater and more success."
Melanie stuck with Andre throughout his doping ban, which was attributed to his inadvertently taking her medication, which contained a banned substance. The footballer, on Ajax's books at the time, was handed a 12-month ban, which was later reduced to nine months on appeal.
