Disgraced former footballer Adam Johnson is engaged and preparing for his wedding with his long-term partner, Stacey Flounders. The convicted paedophile, 39, completed half of his six-year prison term for child grooming and sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.
Reunion after prison
Stacey had ended her relationship with the ex-Manchester City and Sunderland star during the trial, but after reuniting, the couple are now making arrangements for marriage.
A source close to the pair told The Sun: "Stacey and her inner circle have put Adam's time behind bars well behind them and are really excited for the next chapter of their lives." They added their family and friends are "over the moon" for the couple.
Family support
They continued: "They've been through a lot as a family and this feels like the perfect way to leave the memory of the hard times in the past and focus on a happy future with their two kids."
Johnson was imprisoned in 2016, but served only half of his sentence. The winger expressed remorse following his release, saying: "I am very sorry for the effect my conduct had on those directly and indirectly involved. It should never have happened and I deeply regret what I did."
Past and future
Stacey was heavily pregnant with their first child during the trial, and despite stating she would never reconcile with him, the pair reignited their relationship in 2020. The couple welcomed their second child the following year.
At the time, a source told The Sun: "She never hated him. He insists he has learned the error of his ways and has promised he will never cheat again. She thinks he is a brilliant dad."
Since his release from prison, Johnson has remained out of work, with reports suggesting he is "set for life" thanks to his earnings from his Premier League career.
