Emmerdale Fans Furious Over Charity's Treatment of Son Ryan

Emmerdale fans have been left furious after Charity Dingle's harsh treatment of her son Ryan Stocks, with some speculating that the character may leave the village. Viewers took to social media to express their outrage following the scenes aired on Tuesday, June 30, and Wednesday, July 1.

Charity's Struggle and Confession

Charity (Emma Atkins) has been concealing baby Leyla's paternity and was blackmailed by Dr Todd (Caroline Harker), who sexually assaulted her before leaving for Sheffield. Charity eventually confided in her husband Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) and newcomer Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) about the assault, but her behavior toward Ryan has caused backlash.

In Tuesday's episode, Ryan asked his mother, "Why are you acting like I hurt you? What did I do?" Charity harshly replied, "You were born." On Wednesday, Charity revealed her anguish to Serena, saying, "I don't deserve slack. Let's face it, I've been a total cow to him, and I've been pushing him away... [I've been] blaming him for something that happened before he even existed." She added, "Ever since that woman did what she did, I can't bring myself to be anywhere near him. I can't even look him in the eye."

Fan Reactions and Exit Speculation

Soap audiences were unimpressed by Charity's treatment of Ryan, leading to speculation that Ryan might depart the village. One fan wrote on Reddit, "I hope he leaves soon for his own sake, it's a disgrace how Charity treats him and he deserves better." Another added, "It was absolutely horrifying when she said he'd done wrong by 'being born'. Regardless of her current trauma, there's absolutely no excuse for treating someone like that."

A third viewer said, "She has been abhorrent to him lately, wouldn't blame Ryan if he chose to leave the village tbh," with another sharing, "That was vile of Charity, Ryan didn't deserve that. Totally uncalled for." Some fans attempted to rationalize Charity's actions, with one stating, "I think Charity is being awful to Ryan because he reminds her of how he was conceived. It's not an excuse, just an explanation." Another commented, "Charity is really struggling. I wish she would tell Chas, she needs someone to help her," while a third declared, "Justice for Charity."
