A woman who believed she had the perfect marriage has been left devastated after discovering a five-word text message from a friend on her husband's phone. The couple, who met at 18 and secretly married at 20, had built a life together, with the husband supporting his wife's dream of becoming a dancer. However, the discovery of the message has shattered her trust and left her questioning whether to divorce him.
The woman, who shared her story on Reddit, explained that she had always been grateful to her husband for funding her dance lessons and working extra hours to support her ambition. She said: 'He helped me fulfill my dream, he never complained about the lack of money, he never blamed me, he supported me to get ahead and I achieved it.' The couple had recently moved into a house and were planning to start a family.
But her world came crashing down when she picked up her husband's phone to look at photos. She noticed it was in airplane mode, and when she switched it off, messages began to appear. The texts, from a contact saved under a man's name, read: 'Honey, are you home yet?' and 'Write to me when you can.' The number belonged to one of her friends, and the conversation had been deleted.
When confronted, the husband confessed to a five-month affair with the friend, who works with him. He begged for forgiveness, offered to change jobs, and has since been bringing home flowers and chocolates. The woman is torn: 'I really lost trust in him and a certain part of me wants a divorce. But another part of me really loves him and I'm so grateful to him for supporting me years ago.'
Commenters on Reddit advised her to end the friendship with the woman involved and consider marriage therapy if she wanted to rebuild trust. One wrote: 'I know he broke your trust, and that's the hardest thing to get back next to maybe a sense of security. I wish you luck in whatever you do, and I suggest you a family therapist.'
