A DNA test ordered to determine whether a Las Vegas man's younger brother is actually his son has returned inconclusive results. Logan Gifford, 26, has long suspected that his 15-year-old sibling could be his child, following allegations that his mother, Doreene Gifford, sexually assaulted him from the age of 10.
Doreene Gifford was sentenced to eight to 20 years in prison after entering an Alford plea to lesser charges including attempted sexual assault. She is now registered as a sex offender and resides in Massachusetts, according to local reports.
Logan Gifford filed a paternity case earlier this year requesting advanced DNA testing to establish the teenager's father. However, results showed that both Logan and his father, Theodore, matched 99.9% to the boy, leaving it unclear which is the biological parent.
At a recent hearing, Family Court Judge Vincent Ochoa described the outcome as unsurprising and recommended further testing. The judge granted Logan Gifford temporary custody of his brother, replacing an expiring guardianship.
Speaking to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Logan Gifford said he would pursue additional testing to obtain "genetic clarity" for his sibling. He noted that the teenager is aware of the situation and understands the need to uncover the truth.
A GoFundMe page set up by Logan Gifford to support custody efforts has raised nearly $2,000. He described the ordeal as "a nightmare I never chose" and emphasised his commitment to speaking out for male survivors of abuse.
