Cheshire Mechanic Allegedly Stabbed To Death By Partner

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in Wrexham on suspicion of murdering his wife, whose body was found in the garage of their flat in Runcorn, Cheshire. Michael Roberts was taken into custody after a member of the public alerted police, and he is now being questioned about the death of 25-year-old Vicky Roberts.

The couple had been married for six months and lived at Swan's Reach, a modern estate of mews houses and flats. Vicky's parents raised the alarm after not hearing from her for several days, leading police to discover her body in the garage beneath the couple's third-floor flat four days ago. A postmortem examination revealed she had been strangled.

Detectives had previously appealed for Michael Roberts to come forward, releasing a photograph and description highlighting his distinctive spiky black hair and black eyebrows. They also circulated wedding pictures from the couple's Facebook pages. Friends had posted messages urging him to contact police to avoid worsening the situation.

Michael Roberts worked as a manager at a local Boots chemist and had recently moved to a different store. Neighbours last saw him wearing business attire, including grey pinstripe trousers and black patent leather shoes. A young couple in the same development said he had visited them for about half an hour shortly before the alarm was raised.

Cheshire police confirmed the arrest in a statement: 'Following inquiries, a 26-year-old man has been arrested in Wrexham.' Detective Inspector Andrew Smith, leading the investigation, stated that after the postmortem, the case had become a murder inquiry.
