BBC star Melanie Blake recalls masked home invasion terror

Former talent agent Melanie Blake has recalled the terrifying moment two masked men attempted to break into her home. Speaking to The Sun in 2021, Blake, who began her career as a camera assistant on the BBC's Top of the Pops, revealed that she spotted the men trying to climb over her garden gate by pure chance when she checked her security alarm.

Narrow escape caught on camera

"Sometimes I don't check because it's usually a cat or a squirrel. But thank God I did this time," she said. "I was getting into the bath – so I was literally naked – and I heard the alarm again, and I thought, 'That's odd'. So I looked out of the window to see two massive masked men climbing over my 10ft garden gate."

Blake, who previously managed the careers of Beverley Callard and Gillian Taylforth, described how she ran downstairs naked to secure her patio doors while calling the police. "My patio doors were open for the dog because you have to go through three gates to get to my courtyard – it's very secure," she continued. "So while I was calling the police, I ran downstairs naked to pull the doors shut and bolt them."

Police called it attempted home invasion

Blake scared off the intruders by shouting out the window that she had called the police and pointing out that they had already been caught on her security cameras. She suspected the men had more sinister intentions than a simple burglary.

"If you're just going to rob a place, you'd bring empty rucksacks," she told The Sun. "These were full to the brim – these men were tooled up. I was genuinely fearing for my life because I had no idea what their intentions were. It wasn't a robbery; the police are calling it an attempted home invasion. I could have been tied up, beaten or much worse."

Increased security and a new chapter

Blake credited her cameras and security alarms with saving her life. "They saved my life," she said. "If I didn't check that alarm, I might not have been here to speak to you today."

Following the incident, Blake initially increased her security with more cameras, panic buttons, and locks; however, she eventually decided to leave the property and move elsewhere. As of 2025, she has left her career as a talent agent behind and is focusing on her work as a bestselling author, with novels including The Thunder Girls (2018), Ruthless Women (2021), Guilty Women (2022), and Vengeful Women (2025). In April, she confirmed she had been working on an "explosive memoir".
