GB News was interrupted for a breaking announcement regarding an illegal migrant, leaving viewers furious. It was announced that an Afghan refugee has been sentenced to an indefinite hospital order after he stabbed Wayne Broadhurst to death.
Broadhurst, 49, was fatally stabbed in a random "vicious and ferocious" attack by Dawood Safi, 28, in October last year. Before this, Safi attempted to murder his landlord and stabbed a 14-year-old boy.
Court remarks read out
GB News national reporter Will Godley read out comments made in court, where the judge said: "The killing of Mr Broadhurst was entirely attributable to his mental disorder, but the impacts of his crimes have been devastating. The family of Mr Broadhurst have to live with the consequences for the rest of their lives."
Mr Broadhurst's partner, Ann Newman, told the court she and her family have experienced "overwhelming grief" since his death, adding that she's had a "future stolen from me".
Neighbour criticises Home Office
The neighbour of Mr Broadhurst told Godley that the crime was preventable, branding it a "complete failure" by the Home Office as Safi arrived in the UK illegally.
"They didn't verify his age, they stamped him through as being a minor. He was in college with our children, apparently as a minor. He wasn't a minor," she said.
"If they'd done their job properly in the first place, then he wouldn't have been in the country and Wayne would still be here."
Deportation recommendation
Godley went on: "The judge made recommendation to the Home Office for deportation, telling Safi, 'I'm satisfied your continued presence in the UK is to its detriment.'"
Upon entering the country illegally on the back of a lorry in 2020, Safi told officers that he was 17.
"He was in fact 23 and the prosecution say his family members gave him advice on how to cheat the system to maximise his chances of getting leave to remain. He was granted leave to remain until 2027, but now it's up to the Home Office whether or not they want to deport Safi," Godley added.
Viewer outrage
The breaking update sparked outrage amongst viewers, with many taking to social media to voice their fury.
"They all need to be ashamed of themselves ! But they have no feelings for anyone at all ! Disgraceful govt," one raged as another said: "Another Home Office failure - anyone been sacked for negligence??"
"Not good enough," another penned as they tagged the accounts of Andy Burnham, Shabana Mahmood and Wes Streeting. A fourth added: "Some say the Home office should be ashamed, some say they should be sacked but I'm a place in handcuffs guy and stripped of pensions rights. You would only have to do it once maybe twice until they fell into line and stop risking people's lives."
